Probably one my least favorite Mexican restaurants i’ve had in Elgin. Ordered a burrito dinner and the rice tasted burnt.
If I could leave no stars I would. ⭐️ 1 Star This restaurant was one of my favorites my entire life. Unfortunately, since new ownership, the management & staff have completely ruined what used to be a great place. While the food itself can still be very good, the customer service is some of the worst I’ve ever experienced!! Several months ago, I ordered a torta for someone else. I did ask for sour cream but what I received was an inedible, sloppy mess drowned in sour cream with virtually nothing else on it. It was so bad it had to be thrown away. I contacted the owner directly, sent photos at his request, & was told it would be taken care of. That was 3 months ago. Today, I stopped in to resolve it & planned to buy a burrito for myself- I simply asked whether the unresolved issue could be substituted with a burrito instead. Instead of handling it professionally, the owner immediately insisted — repeatedly — that it had already been redeemed & that HE personally redeemed it. This is absolutely false. I live 30 minutes away, have never seen this man in my life, & I know for a fact I never redeemed anything. Rather than de-escalate or check his records, he continued to argue with me. After hearing the same accusation multiple times, I finally said I wasn’t going to argue and at that point, I chose not to spend my money there at all and walked out. Over a $9 burrito, they lost a lifetime customer. This wasn’t an isolated incident. On another visit, I called in an order because of the distance. The phone rang endlessly… When someone finally answered, she cut me off mid-order, said “okay thank you,” and hung up. When I tried calling back, she repeatedly picked up & hung up the phone. When I arrived, I was told she was “busy.” Lol What?? Uhm ok? It’s incredibly disappointing to watch a restaurant with such a great history fall apart due to poor management and unprofessional staff. The food may still be decent, but the service makes it not worth returning. I truly wanted to keep supporting this place but I won’t be back. Ever again.
Ordered 3 beef taco's and beef nacho's, paid $28 dollars. Not sure what "beef" (burger) product they use but to us it tasted like canned pet food. It was HORRIBLE! Needless to say we threw it away. What a waist of our money!!!
They play their music way too loud for the size of the establishment. I ordered Chicken Nachos and I received 3 fried tortillas/ maybe even tostadas with beans smeared over, chicken on them, and cheese with a side of guacamole and sour cream. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food this isn’t it. I’d rather go to Tacobell across the street, they make Actual nachos. Btw Spanish is my 1st language. Would have taken a picture but I threw it in the trash.
I had my cousin go pick me up 4 tacos, and they put lettuce and tomatoes without cheese or toasting the shells. Usually when I go to a Mexican restaurant they serve you cilantro and onion tacos while toasting the shells also. Any other food I've gotten there was fantastic. But the tacos, they were basic American tacos and not done authentic.
Update: Ok they have changed by a lot, no more bad customer service and the food is delicious. The gorditas are SO good. I can’t stop ordering them. Highly recommend this spot. It's not good. I told them no tomatoes or onions and they loaded my burrito with it. The meat was not good at all, I mean after I had to shovel out the meat that is. Also the girl was super mean and nasty.
This is a great Mexican restaurant on McLean Blvd in Elgin. You order at the counter then then pick up your food. There is seating for about only twenty people so it is a bit tight. They do offer all you can eat chips and salsa if you are eating there plus unlimited soda. The food was great this day.
Good Horchata and flautas. The tacos were pretty mediocre. They are open late, we came in after 9pm when most other places are closing up. The inside is clean.
